A Tour of OkemoTherapy - Limited Availability - Renovations Underway.. The Tour begins In the entry hall you will find the ski racks, boot benches, and a place to hang your coat. Take off your stresses and hang them up too. The Welcome Bear is down the hall, on the way to the kitchen. This is what the welcome bear sees! The Kitchen The kitchen at Okemotherapy has a full set of appliances including a microwave, a gas stove, coffee maker, toaster, blender and a dishwasher. The island is butcher block, intended for cutting and the preparation of food. Do not be afraid to use it, it is designed to be a working surface. The Conklin Family also worked hard to upgrade OkemoTherapy (they bought it from Rob Pike three winters ago, and sold it to current owner George Guldi, who just replaced the windows. And the new, larger table makes a great Country Kitchen even better. The kitchen is still presided over by the "Frost Killer," a powerful, heavy duty wood stove which is the fireplace in OkemoTherapy. The stove will burn with the main front door either open or closed, but is more efficient with it closed. Feel free to put a pot of water on top to keep moisture in the air in the building.
The Circular Hall As a design note a section of the hallway in Okemotherapy is circular (you can see the Welcome Bear calls this home). An old sled that was used in early New England times for transporting supplies or wood, rests here too. Three Downstairs Bedrooms We just redesigned the main floor of OkemoTherapy with two master bedrooms with direct access to bathrooms. The bathroom attached to the master bedroom has a "Jacuzzi" type whirlpool tub with forced water and air circulating. This is controlled from the timer switch on the opposite wall over the toilet. In addition, there is a switch near the tub which runs the heat lamp which is a good way to polish off your day upon exiting the tub. This master bedroom has two dressers but no hanging closet. It has direct access to the master bathroom.
The Second downstairs Master bedroom, was recently Improved! Now it features direct and totally private access to a bathroom.
Bunk Room The bunk room, on the right in the photo above sleeps four, all singles. Please note that there are no ladders up to the upper bunks and there are no railings on the sides. Small children, who may tend to roll out of bed, should be in the lower bunks. Older children, who know what they are doing, should be allowed to sleep up top. We figure if they are old enough to climb up into these beds, they ought to be smart enough not to roll out of them. There is a washer and dryer in the closet of this room, and the spot where all the extra linens and towels and the like are stored. Living Room, Entertainment Center, Loft Continuing the tour, the main upstairs room is the other focal point of activity in the house. We recently added a pool table. There are three futon couch/beds and a loft with two futons located up here. The quilts for the living room futons will be stored either in the trunk at the far end of the room, in the hall closet around the corner, or up in the loft. The entertainment center currently consists of a Large Screen TV hooked up to a DVD, AND A KILLER STEREO. The stereo system is hooked into the TV and if you push the VCR-l switch on the receiver, it will amplify whatever is on the TV. The radio and the CD player work just fine.
Also, please note that a number of books and magazines have been left for your use. Please feel free to drop off books that you have enjoyed, after you are done with them, so that those who follow will equally benefit from your fine taste in written material. Upstairs Master Bedroom The upstairs bedroom a platform bed, the old rocker, skylights, an en suite shower and a private bathroom with a clawfoot tub. In Summary: The house layout is 3 bedrooms on the first floor, 1 full size with a private bath, 1 full with a shared bath and one room with 2 sets of bunk beds sleeps 4, on the 2nd floor there is a bedroom with a full size and a bath, 3 full size futons in the living room, and a loft above the living room with 2 full size mattresses. Outdoor Hot Tub
